As a former public school kindergarten teacher, married to a current public school elementary teacher, I never thought we'd end up at a Waldorf school. However, here we are, and we couldn't be happier. My children are nurtured, yet challenged, and nothing can keep them from missing a school day! The teachers are masters of their craft, committed to continuing education and professional development, with some of the strongest foundations in child development that I've encountered among teachers (and, with a degree in human development, that is so important to me, both as a parent and a teacher, myself). The community of other parents and families is the icing on the cake, and my husband and I feel so blessed to be a part of that community and for that amazing support network. Now that we are here at the Waldorf School of Princeton, despite thinking we'd be on a very different path, I couldn't imagine my girls anywhere else.

9 years at this school and my daughter graduates soon. We are so sad to leave. The waldorf school of Princeton has been a place where my child has been truly seen, and her needs met, in a developmentally appropriate way. She has not been rushed into adolescence. She has arrived there, ready and enthusiastic. And I attribute this in large part to the supportive and mindful environment she has grown up in, within the school.

Nearly every day I hear a story that reminds me how grateful I am for Waldorf. I am not aware of any education that does a better job of preparing children for life. Beyond doing an excellent job of teaching core academics, the Waldorf School of Princeton has taught my son to believe in his own abilities; that he can do just about anything with perseverence and time. He's hard wired for empathy; he know what he needs, and he wants to know what others need from him. Lessons always provide a perspective on context, so that by 8th grade I can see he's got a very good sense of how the pieces of the world fit together. The product: a smart, self-advocating teenager who doesn't cave at challenges, who advocates for himself and others, with strong relationships and an ability to figure out the answers to the many questions that spring from his curious mind. Visit the Waldorf School of Princeton - you might just have one of the best experiences of your life. We did.

This is how children across the globe should be educated. Gently, thoughtfully, and with the greater context in mind. But forget the slogans and take time to visit. Interview a teacher or a parent. Ask annoying questions. Attend one of the school functions, especially the annual may faire . And then watch the children and the teachers interact. It's very special.

Save yourself (or your child). It's a horrible place. Its a strange experiment that is very ineffective. My transition back into the real world was difficult when I found I only knew a quarter of the stuff I was expected to know. Free thinking is basically inexistent at this place.

The philosophy and education are incredible! Children are looked at from a much broader perspective and the school aims to educate not only theirs brains but their whole self. I feel this education really fosters the development of inner capacities such as engagement, curiosity, imagination and enthusiasm that are really lacking in other systems and that are much needed to survive this fast paced and ever changing world. The community of like minded parents has been of great value for my growth as a parent and human being.
